SHRM selects Helen G. Drinan as new president and CEO
Drinan has more than 20 years of human resource management experience, the last 19 of which have been with BankBoston Corp. In 1993, she became BankBoston's executive vice president, human resources, reporting directly to the company's CEO. In this position, Drinan was a key member of the corporation's Executive Management Group, its top management committee responsible for setting business strategy, leading change initiatives and establishing tactical priorities.
At BankBoston, Drinan redesigned all compensation and benefits programs into a comprehensive performance-driven rewards program. Directing a staff of 200 HR professionals, Drinan executed an award-winning diversity planning model and developed a comprehensive work-life strategy that helped the company receive recognition by Working Mother magazine.
Drinan also has significant not-for-profit experience, having been a board member of BlueCross/BlueShield of Massachusetts since 1995.
"The Society has made important strides in the last decade," noted Michael J. Lotito, chairman of SHRM's board of directors and a member of the CEO search committee. "It was critical to choose a new president and CEO who will build on the Society's growth and provide leadership in SHRM's efforts to communicate the critical importance of HR professionals in any organization. With her proven leadership and substantial experience in the field, Helen will fulfill these expectations and more."
