Portland Business School Hosts Forum To Discuss Role Of Human Resources In Strategic Business Practice
Panel of HR leaders, featuring VPs and directors, visits George Fox University's Portland Center on Jan. 21.
Newberg, OR (Vocus) George Fox University's School of Business invites the public to a free panel discussion, "Human Resources as a Strategic Business Partner," from 7 to 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at the university's Portland Center location.
Moderator Tom Kelley, consultant at Thompson Consulting and a past national chair of the Society of Human Resource Management, will lead a panel that will include Barbara Baker, executive vice president of HR at Umpqua Bank; Eliza Scott, vice president of HR at Tripwire; and Rick Howell, director of HR at New Seasons.
The panel will discuss such issues as access and participation in the decision-making process, creating an organization that is proactive from an HR perspective, and how HR can contribute to the bottom line.
"Many companies today approach HR to fix or implement existing programs, policies or ideas, but few leverage HR as a proactive and strategic part of the business," said Dirk Barram, dean of the School of Business. "People are the No. 1 asset of a business, yet the impact of HR strategies and initiatives may not always be considered in making executive decisions."
