From our founding in 1927, the O.C. Tanner Recognition Company has had one focus: to award individuals for their accomplishments.

Obert C. Tanner started the business in 1927. As an educator, he believed students deserved more than a diploma to mark their graduation. Obert began selling class pins and rings to students throughout northern Utah.

Obert Tanner wasn't pleased with the quality his vendors could provide, so he started making his own jewelry. He had learned the basics of the jewelry trade while working in a local jewelry store. The first O.C. Tanner manufacturing facility was located in Obert's mother's basement.

O.C. Tanner's employees worked hard at winning customers, and even harder to please them with unique, custom-designed awards - a legendary service of the O.C. Tanner Recognition Company even today. Often, Obert or other members of the staff traveled cross-country by train to meet with corporate executives and present innovative recognition options.

In the 1970's, the company created a new dimension in corporate recognition. In addition to traditional jewelry, the company added accessories (watches, bracelets, writing instruments, etc.) and timepieces. In the mid 80's O.C. Tanner Recognition Company began offering an even wider variety of products designed to fit the varied preferences of its customers. This line was dubbed "Lifestyles."

Today, the O.C. Tanner Recognition Company offers more than 4,000 "Lifestyles" awards including gold & diamond rings, watches, writing instruments, necklaces and other fine jewelry, active and sports accessories, clocks, electronics, office accessories, crystal, home accessories and other fine gifts. Most of these awards can be enhanced with O.C. Tanner's renowned corporate symbols.

The O.C. Tanner Company continues to grow and prosper. Under today's dynamic leadership the company leads the way in products and services for employee recognition. In the mid 90s, O.C. Tanner Company introduced the first fully-integrated Internet recognition program (for Apple Computer), starting a new era in recognition programs. In 2000 the company launched another cutting-edge recognition initiative: ENVISION Recognition Solutions; the industry's only truly complete recognition system.
