New Partnership Helps Companies Curb Workplace Violence
Under the agreement, Claremont will present CGIS' workplace violence services to its EAP clients to more effectively identify and address potential workplace violence threats. In turn, CGIS will recommend Claremont Partners to clients that need a national EAP with the local expertise. The new joint service offering includes workplace violence prevention training for employees and management, vulnerability assessments, and crisis response and communications services.
"Our partnership with CGIS extends our EAP offerings to include a premier workplace violence program that educates on the facts, promotes awareness, improves communication and delivers a solid foundation for safety within the workplace," said Tom Bjornson, chairman and CEO of Claremont Partners, a pioneer in the EAP field.
"EAPs are the truest intervention tool in workplace violence prevention," said Paul Viollis, senior managing director and leader of CGIS' Security Services practice. "The problem with most EAPs is that they are positioned merely as an employee benefit and often the best kept secret in a company," furthered Viollis. "We are glad to be working with Claremont Partners because they uniquely incorporate the local knowledge, responsiveness and personalized services necessary to effectively address human resource risk management issues."
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, as many as two million violent acts in the workplace are reported each year in the United States alone. The Workplace Violence Research Institute has estimated that the total cost of those incidents exceeds $36 billion annually.
"Apart from the lone gunman launching a robbery, workplace violence is never spontaneous and always avoidable providing the appropriate controls," Viollis said. "Thorough training, a firm conflict resolution policy, and an EAP capable of identifying and minimizing threats are necessary to avoid and manage these risks."
