Monsanto Selects Magellan Behavioral Health to Manage Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services

COLUMBIA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE) via NewsEdge Corporation -- Magellan Behavioral Health today announced that it has been selected to expand the services it offers to Monsanto employees.

Magellan has been providing employee assistance program (EAP) services to Monsanto employees since 1978, and has recently been awarded a contract to manage mental health and substance abuse services as well.

Under the three-year contract, which takes effect on January 1, 2000, Magellan will provide network management, care management and administrative services for approximately 42,000 people including Monsanto employees, retirees and their family members across the United States. The contract will be administered through Magellan's service center in St. Louis.

Headquartered in St. Louis, Monsanto is a life sciences company that makes and markets high-value agricultural products, pharmaceuticals and food ingredients in a manner that achieves environmental sustainability.

"As one of our longest standing EAP clients, Monsanto understands the importance of giving its employees access to a wide array of services they need to stay healthy," said Gregory Bayer, Ph.D., president of Magellan Behavioral Health's Workplace Solutions Group.

"Employers like Monsanto are recognizing that when their EAP is integrated with mental health and substance abuse services, their workforce is better able to access care and maintain continuity of care across benefit programs while simplifying program administration for the company."
