HireRight Introduces Industry's First Extended Workforce Screening Solution
New Software Solution Closes Critical Security Gap with Vendor Employees, Temps and Contractors
Irvine, CA - HireRight Inc., the leader in on-demand employment screening solutions, announced the Extended Workforce Screening Solution, the industry's first robust software solution for managing the background screening of vendor and partner employees, temporary employees and independent contractors who have access to a company's facilities, data, personnel and information systems. Most large enterprises today screen full-time employees, but these other categories of the workforce generally do not undergo the same security procedures, representing a major security gap.
Making up a significant portion of today's labor pool, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates contractors, temporary employees, on-call workers and workers provided by contract firms to make up roughly 10 percent of the total U.S. workforce. In some large companies, contingent workers can represent as much as a third of their entire labor population.
Since most large U.S. companies conduct background checks as part of the standard hiring procedure on direct employees, applicants with questionable pasts more often look for jobs in locations where background checks are not performed, such as smaller companies and temporary employment firms. In fact, a recent study conducted by HireRight found that vendor employees were 92 percent more likely to have a felony record than permanent hires of the same companies, and were approximately 50 percent more likely to have a misdemeanor record or drug history.
Developed in conjunction with leading firms in the Technology, Defense and Financial Services industries, the HireRight Extended Workforce Screening Solution provides a convenient way for organizations to establish requirements and a procedure to screen those vendor employees that have access to their facilities, information and staff. The solution is on-demand and allows an organization to set up the required background checks to be conducted on vendor employees and enforce program compliance. To provide an optimal screening experience, the vendors being screened are provided with a simple and secure step-by-step process for background check completion. Through the solution, the screening results may either be immediately shared with the client organization, or kept private by the vendor company. Offering added convenience, HireRight's Extended Workforce Screening Solution is accessible to the client from within HireRight's Employment Screening Solution interface and integrates with leading badging and access control systems.
"With the heightened awareness of data security breaches, corporate theft and workplace violence, organizations are becoming more concerned about the other components of their workforce which may have unregulated access to company facilities and systems," said David Nachman, HireRight vice president of product management. "We worked hard to first truly understand the unique challenges organizations face in screening the extended workforce and have developed a streamlined solution that helps employers easily close this common security gap."
