The DOT requires that personnel administering breath alcohol tests complete a standard course of instruction
The DOT requires that personnel administering breath alcohol tests complete a standard course of instruction and training to be qualified as BATs. The model curriculum issued by the DOT calls for a 6-1/2 hour course plus proficiency training on the evidential breath alcohol test equipment.
SAMI offers the BAT training course using the DOT model curriculum as a 1-1/2 day seminar taught by instructors at either of SAMI's locations (Milwaukee, Wisconsin or Boca Raton, Florida), or on-site at the employer's location. The SAMI course includes the proficiency training using the ALCOMAN and AlcoSensor IV evidential breath testing equipment. Breath Alcohol Technicians are registered as certified BATs through the Drug and Alcohol Testing Training Institute. Train-the-trainer courses are also available for those wishing to provide BAT instruction on an ongoing basis at their work locations.
