Kmart deploys automated employment and salary verification service

Discount retailer Kmart Corp., Troy, MI., has launched The Work Number, an automated employment and salary verification service provided by TALX Corp., an application service provider of human resources, benefits and payroll employee services.

"Kmart joins a list of well-respected companies that have chosen to simplify the employment and salary verification process and provide better service to their employees," said Bill Canfield, CEO and president of TALX, which is based in St. Louis.

The Work Number database has nearly 40 million employee records on file from over 600 organizations nationwide, including other top retail organizations and Fortune 1000 companies. Over 30,000 mortgage bankers, lenders and other verifiers regularly use The Work Number each month to obtain highly accurate and complete information on applicants.

The database is updated directly from the employers' payroll records every pay period. The Work Number is available via the Web (www.theworknumber.com ) or by phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
