Humana Workers` Compensation Services Implements One Call`s Prescription Drug Program

Humana Workers' Compensation Services, a subsidiary of Humana Inc. has implemented a workers compensation prescription drug program the company says will substantially enhance customer service and better manage the eligibility process for drug benefits.

Through an agreement with One Call Comprehensive Care Inc., this prescription drug program assists covered employees in receiving prescription medications that have been authorized for the treatment of work-related injuries. For long term medication treatment, a home delivery program is available.

"Even though prescription drug benefits represent less than 2% of workers' compensation claim costs, they can be a highly visible and emotional benefit to someone who has been injured on the job," said D. Gene Roberts, executive director of Humana WCS. "The One Call program will help eliminate the wait time and hassle-factor in delivering these benefits and should be favorably perceived by the injured employee," he said.

When Humana WCS receives a notice of injury from an employer customer, an eligibility record is created and immediately shared with One Call, which enables the injured worker to get his or her prescription filled at any of One Call's more than 55,000 network pharmacies. Within 24 hours of the injury report, the injured employee receives an identification card from One Call. These activities facilitate eligibility verification and allow prescriptions to be filled quickly at participating pharmacies with no paperwork to complete or out-of-pocket expense to the injured employee.

One Call Comprehensive Care was formed in 1992 as a specialty-licensed pharmacy. While the primary focus of the company is toward the workers' compensation market, One Call also provides comprehensive services to group health clients. Services include a workers' compensation retail pharmacy card program, a mail order prescription medication program, home health care services including nursing (skilled and non-skilled) and physical and rehabilitative therapy, durable medical equipment, oxygen and respiratory therapies, rehabilitative equipment, and IV therapy. One Call's corporate offices are located in St. Petersburg, Florida. One Call has clients throughout the United States.
